Ade has a vast amount of experience in music education, teaching a broad range of styles and skills in various formats. He lectures in composition at The University of Melbourne, teaches composition at The VCA and Scotch College and teaches privately.
His private teaching experience has seen him prepare VCE students for AMEB exams, teach adult students some chords to their favourite songs, and everything in between - the approach is largely dictated by what the student hopes to get out of lessons.
Rather than rigidly employ a universal syllabus or default set of textbooks, emphasis is placed on tailoring a teaching approach that best suits the student’s musical goals. For example, when starting with a young beginner, care is taken to provide a solid foundation on which to build, with an emphasis on the development of aural skills and technique. By the same token if an adult student is simply wishing to learn the chords to some of their favourite songs and develop enough musical ability for their own recreation, then this is exactly what is done. Also at the forefront is awakening and fostering the student’s love of music, with lessons and practice designed to be a source of fun rather than a chore.
He teaches from his home studio in Clifton Hill and offers tuition for students of any standard wishing to learn in a relaxed, friendly environment. Lessons are $80 p/hr.
